The Herb Shop was founded in 2007 by Josh Powell and Melissa Staskievitz, two experienced paramedics interested in natural health and searching for a "better way".
Josh Powell
Mr. Powell spent 11 years working in the back of an ambulance, caring for patients, and honing his emergency medical skills. During that time he saw many examples of "medication overload" with patients literally carrying bags of pill bottles. Having been interested in herbal medicine since a young child he decided to pursue it in earnest. First obtaining a Therapeutic Bodywork Practitioner title from the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education he followed that up with graduating as a Natural Health Educator from the same school. He is currently pursuing his Naturopathic Doctor degree from Trinity School of Natural Health. He has taken courses from herbalist Steven Horne, and a program in homeopathy from the Resonance School of Homeopathy.
In his spare time Josh enjoys cooking, reading, camping, and spending time with his wife Melissa, and two children Jay and Xavier.

Melissa Powell
Mrs. Powell currently works in emergency medicine as a paramedic. She graduated from the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education as a Natural Health Educator, and completed a Holistic Birth Companion program from the same school. She is a certified Colon Hydrotherapist. Melissa's interest lies in natural childbirth and home delivery. She is pursuing a Traditional Midwife degree from the Michigan School of Traditional Midwifery. For all you mamas out there with questions about natural pregnancy and natural baby-care feel free to contact Melissa with your questions.
In her spare time Melissa enjoys snowmobiling and spending time with her family.

Noelle Deitz
Noelle brings a lot of enthusiasm to her practice. She is a graduated Natural Health Educator who has been trained in massage techniques. Noelle sees clients both as a naturopath and for massage.
